Moodie is “Spectacular” for Win at Aubuchon Holiday Event

Wolcott’s Brendan Moodie joined the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model first-time winner’s club in the by taking the Aubuchon Hardware Holiday Spectacular on Tuesday, July 3 in a barnburner. By doing so, the winningest Flying Tiger driver in Thunder Road history added a Late Model victory to his résumé in his rookie year in the division.

Moodie started on the outside pole and get the immediate jump over Milton’s Eric Chase. He then pulled out to a sizeable advantage while Chase and Christopher Pelkey dueled for second. Once Pelkey got clear of Chase on lap 6, he steadily gained ground until he was glued to Moodie’s bumper on lap 17.

Barre’s Thunder Road is the place to be this week for fans of short-track racing. The Aubuchon Hardware Holiday Fireworks Spectacular this Tuesday, July 3 at 7:00pm kicks off a doubleheader that celebrates the nation’s Independence Day with not one, but two nights of high-octane thrills.

The Holiday Spectacular is one of the biggest events every year on the Thunder Road calendar. A full house is expected Tuesday to cheer on a night of championship action for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models, Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks. Fans will be treated to one of the best fireworks displays in the region to cap off the evening.

Donahue Makes Thrilling Charge to Break into Winner’s Circle on CCV Night

Graniteville’s Stephen Donahue joined the ranks of Maplewood/Irving Late Model winners at Barre’s Thunder Road by charging to the win on Community College of Vermont (CCV) Night on Friday, June 29. The third-generation racer took the lead for good from Washington’s Ricky Roberts on lap 38 of the 50-lap feature and sped away for his first Late Model win on the Barre high banks.

Grim Weather Forecast Forces Postponement of CCV Night

Due to a grim Thursday weather forecast that has shown no signs of improvement, Thunder Road officials have postponed Community College of Vermont Night until Friday, June 29 at 6:30pm.

The schedule of events will remain the same for the speedway’s final event of June. Double features are on the program for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers along with a full card of racing for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. The event will also feature the Vermont Brewer’s Cup for the state’s top craft brewers.

Admission for CCV Night on Friday, June 29 is just $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids). The pits will open at 3:00pm and the front gates will open at 4:45pm.

Barre’s Thunder Road will be full speed ahead this Thursday, June 28 at Community College of Vermont Night. A pit area full of race cars is expected for a special 6:30pm post time with all four of the track’s exciting classes ready to give lessons to their competition.

The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers are ready to double up on Thursday with two features scheduled. They open the program with their Casella Waste Systems main event that was postponed following qualifying two weeks ago. A second feature will follow later in the evening as part of the CCV program.

Thunder Road to Host Rawhide Rodeo Tour in October

This October, Thunder Road fans will get to experience a different kind of horsepower. Track officials announced Wednesday they have agreed to host the Rawhide Rodeo Tour on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7. The inaugural Barre Pro Rodeo will be sponsored by Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel and presented in partnership with WDEV Radio and WOKO.

The 2-day event is the first visit to central Vermont by a professional rodeo tour in recent memory. Both days of competition will feature a variety of the most popular North American rodeo events, including bareback riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, tie-down roping, and bull riding. It will be held rain or shine.
