Barre, VT – No matter whether you’re racing in the NASCAR Cup series or a local entry-level division, being a champion is a big deal. Hometown racer Jeffery Martin can attest to that, as the 31-year-old Barre veteran was overcome with emotion on September 22 after securing the 2019 Allen Lumber Street Stock championship. Martin is in his second go-round in the Street Stock ranks after winning multiple races in the early 2010s, and he wrapped up the decade in style by holding off 2014 division champion Tommy “Thunder” Smith for the crown.

Weekly Late Model racers around the Northeast will have the opportunity to race for even more during the 2020 season. The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced the inaugural New England Late Model Challenge Cup (NELMCC) presented by American Racer to reward the top participating drivers around the region.

Barre, VT – At any level of auto racing, being a good sportsman is as important as being a good racer. In 2019, Danville’s Tyler Cahoon managed to be both. The 38-year-old veteran was already at the Thunder Road Banquet of Champions to celebrate his 8th-place finish in Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model points – and got another reason to celebrate when he was surprised with the 2019 Thunder Road Sportsmanship Award.

Barre, VT – Over the past three years, the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers have returned to prominence as one of the best middle divisions in North America. The 2019 season was a big year for the class, with 12 different winners, five first-time winners, and an average of nearly 27 cars per event in attendance. However, in the end, there was no stopping Waterbury Center’s Jason Woodard as he rolled to not one but two championships on the high banks.

Barre, VT – Nearly everyone who has spent time at Thunder Road as a racer, crew member, official, or fan knows the name of Dean Gallison. For more than four decades, he has been a presence at the track, and has spent the better part of the last 20 years as Thunder Road’s Director of Competition. Gallison was honored this past off-season in a history-making way, as he became the first two-time recipient of the most prestigious award in Vermont motorsports: the Don MacTavish Award.

Barre, VT – Jason Corliss has done a lot of winning since moving up to the Late Model ranks. In 2019, he got the biggest win of them all – the 2019 “King of the Road” title. After 14 point-counting events for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models, Corliss barely edged out defending champion Scott Dragon to win the track championship.

Barre, VT – Barre’s Thunder Road Speedbowl has officially unveiled its schedule of events for the 2020 racing season. The 19-event schedule goes from early May until early October and includes the 1,000th event in the history of the high banks.
