Along the backstretch of the famous Vermont oval, a new section specifically for vehicles to drive in and park will open officially for the annual holiday weekend event.

Barre, VT — As part of last weekend’s 63rd Season Opener and Community Bank 150, Thunder Road and the American-Canadian Tour celebrated their 2021 champions, top runners and rookies as well as the various annual special awards presented by the ACT sanctioning body. Because of COVID-19 concerns, the annual dinner and awards ceremony was once again held outdoors on the Thunder Road property under the afternoon sun.

Barre, VT — With 117 cars on hand for the 63rd Season Opener at Thunder Road International Speedbowl, 17 qualifying races were needed before the four feature races took the green creating some of the best stock car racing in the United States at the ‘Nation’s Site of Excitement.’ When all the dust settled Sunday afternoon, a first time winner stood amongst hardened veterans and the ‘King of Barre’ remained on his throne.

Barre, VT — Thunder Road officials are excited to announce that Butch Mitchell has joined on as the lead four-cylinder technical inspector for the rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. American-Canadian Tour and White Mountain Motorsports Park Director of Competition Pete Knights will also join the Thunder Road staff alongside Chief Technical Inspector Chuck Beede and, his grandson, inspector Riley Laggner.

Barre, VT — Thunder Road International Speedbowl has a long-standing tradition of inviting NASCAR Premier Series’ athletes to test out the Barre highbanks and the stiff competition that comes with the territory. Blue collar heroes like Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace have both tested their metal at The Road, as have former drivers Clint Bowyer and David Ragan along with Cup Series Champions Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch. After a nine-year hiatus, the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery returns to present the 43rd Vermont Governor’s Cup 150 on Thursday, July 14. One of the most iconic races in the state of Vermont, the Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup annually serves as the opening event in the New England NASCAR weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
