46th Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup Continues All-Important Month of July at Thunder Road

Barre, VT – The busy, hot month of July continues its all-importance in the track title chase for the Thunder Road faithful this Thursday, July 17 with the 46th running of the Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup 150 for the Maplefields/Irving Late Models. The ‘Thunder and Lightning’ division of Barre’s Thunder Road goes for their longest point-counting showdown of the summer season with a chance at joining a who’s-who of all time greats on the Vermont Governor’s Cup.

Debuting at the Nation’s Site of Excitement back in 1961, the Vermont Governor’s Cup holds an incredible list of former winners including Harold ‘Hardluck’ Hanaford, Modified great Bugs Stevens, Quebec’s Jean-Paul Cabana, both Beaver and Bobby Dragon, the ‘Tampa Tornado’ Robbie Crouch, ‘Dynamite’ Dave Dion, ‘The King of Barre’ Nick Sweet, ‘Irish’ John Donahue and more! Now the mid-point in the Squier Cup Triple Crown presented by Milton CAT, the Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup continues to be a high-point in the summer grind.

Everyone’s eyes are sure to be on Milton’s Scott Dragon this Thursday with the second-generation driver looking for his fifth Governor’s Cup victory and to secure the jump from third to first in the Squier Cup standings. Barre’s Jason Corliss will be looking for his fourth Governor’s Cup win while fellow former winners in Brooks Clark and Cody Blake are also looking for another. Former Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour champion Jimmy Hebert and Memorial Day Classic winner Bryan Wall Jr. are both looking to add themselves to Thunder Road’s illustrious stat books while Chris Pelkey, Kaiden Fisher, Marcel Gravel and Brandon Lanphear are among the weekly warriors looking to nab the big prize this Thursday.

Colchester’s Sam Caron continues to head the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers in search of his second track championship at Thunder Road. With a worse finish of eight-place so far this season, Caron is keeping it calm, cool and collective with his eyes on the September 18th prize. Be warned, former champion Brendan Moodie, top-five runner Cameron Ouellette and two-track chaser Logan Powers are all chomping at the bit for a trip to victory lane and it just might come on Vermont Lottery night.

The rk Miles Street Stocks have been a happening group this summer with more moves up and down the standings than you can count on both hands and both feet! Waterbury’s Ryan Foster’s heat race smash-up with the turn one wall took him out of the top spot last week with Berlin’s Kyler Davis now leading the chase over Dean Switser, ‘Flyin’ Fred Fleury and Jamie Davis. Just as impressive has been the back and forth atop the Rookie of the Year standings between Randolph’s Keegan Tabor and Hayden Bushey of Fairfax with the two young-guns duking it out for the freshman title.
