Gray Beats Corliss in Three-Wide Backstretch Move; Jeff Martin Run-What-U-Brung Champ
/Barre, VT – The annual Jet Service Envelope/Accura Printing Run-What-U-Brung spectator drags did not disappoint once again this year. Jeffrey Martin, Jr. proved to be the superior spectator dragracer on Thursday, defeating all comers before facing off with the Toyota Minivan of Matt Bashaw. The two went for double elimination with Martin proving to be the man to beat as the 2026 champion.
The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors opened up Thursday’s racing action on Jet Service Envelope/Accura Printing Night with ‘Boss Hogg’ Mason Frazier quickly taking the lead and running ahead of the pack. The wild bunch kept things interesting throughout their 20-lap trophy dash, beating and banging off one another around the highbanks. Frazier took the win just ahead of his closest opponent Taylor Sayers, who once cleared traffic was running the leader down. Anderson Boyd rounded out the podium.
The rk Miles Street Stocks were next on track with Curtis Franks and Paige Whittemore leading the field to green. Lap five brought out the red flag as a stack-up on the outside lane accordioned and sent Patrick Tibbetts broadside at near full speed into the frontstretch wall and called up the double hook courtesy of Action Towing and Paul’s Sunoco. Back under green the calamity continued mid-pack with Jen Getty and Howard Stockwell spinning off turn two on lap 9 and again with several cars spinning on lap 16.
The final caution on lap 24 saw Owen Dupuis and Whittemore spin at the front of the field, completely changing the outlook on the rest of the event as point leader Hayden Bushey jumped into the pits for maintenance. The decision cost Bushey as his closest competitor in the championship chase Tyler Wheatley took down the win over Hayden Morris and Erik Steel.
Jason Pelkey and Karsen Murphy brought the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger field to green for their 50-lap sprint with Erin Beaudry and Jaiden Del Toro in tow. The side-by-side battle on the front kept it two-by-two down through the field prior to the lap 22 caution with Luke Peters and Parker Gagne slowed on the backstretch. The Pelkey v. Murphy title fight out front continued with the two running doorhandle-to-doorhandle around the Thunder Road quarter mile, neither giving an inch.
The final caution for a turn one spin set up an eight lap dash to the end with Del Toro coming out of nowhere on the outside groove! Jaiden Del Toro won it by a fender over Jason Pelkey side-by-side at the line for his first career Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger win with Mike MacAskill taking third.
Stephen Martin and Matt Sonnhalter ran side-by-side for over thirty laps at the head of the Maplefields/Irving Late Models during their 60-lap feature. While staying patient through the first half, Brandon Gray finally saw daylight under Sonnhalter three-wide on the backstretch to steal the lead on lap 35 as Jason Corliss began to bear down from behind. From then on it was Gray out front followed by Corliss with Taylor Hoar making her way through the pack to run third and that was how it stayed under the checkered flag in the caution-free, 13-minute feature.
Thunder Road is back in action next Thursday, September 17 for the rain-delayed Bergamot + Amor / Calkins Portable Toilets Night. Along with the World Famous Port-a-Potty Grand Prix, the Maplefields/Irving Late Models, Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers and rk Miles Street Stocks continue their 2026 track championship journey alongside the Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors with a special 6:30pm Post Time.
