Gravel, Moodie and Audet Take High Honors on Bergamot + Amor/Calkins Portables Night

Barre, VT – Bergamot + Amor and Calkins Portable Toilets presented the annual Port-a-Potty Grand Prix Thursday night at Thunder Road. Brendan Moodie’s creation was fan-voted the prettiest outhouse but the real race came next. Point leaders Jason Corliss, Moodie, Tyler Wheatley and Road Warrior representative Taylor Sayers were pushed across the line and down the frontstretch as fast as their pit crews could push. In the end, Corliss took the Golden Throne over Wheatley at the toilet-paper finish line!

Curtis Franks and Jen Getty brought out the rk Miles Street Stocks to kick off feature racing on Bergamot + Amor / Calkins Portable Toilets Night but quickly succumbed to Zach Audet in the early goings. Audet quickly began to spread out his lead and faced an onslaught of slower lapped traffic by the halfway point. The lone caution flag flew on lap 28 as rookie Zachary Garvey spun in his own oil and collecting three others in turn two. The restart pitted Audet against Connor Rueda with Donat Premont all over his rear bumper. Audet rolled off the restart like a Sunday drive en-route to his first win of the season over Premont and late-charger TJ Haggett at the line.

Eric ‘Mongo’ Messier brought the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers to green for their 50-lap feature event but it was outside polesitter Jason Pelkey who kept pace on the outside groove. Once Pelkey settled in, point leader Brendan Moodie completed his outside groove charge to second, stalking Messier around the quarter-mile with 15 laps complete. Chris LaForest called the caution out at the halfway point after a run-in with the turn two wall that blew his right front tire. Moodie out-foxed Messier on the restart and took the lead at the line as closest track championship competitor Cooper French settled into third. That is how it stayed to the very end with Moodie taking career win number twenty-five followed by Messier and French across the line.

Post-race technical inspection located an unapproved pitman arm in the steering components of Messier’s #19 machine, moving French into second and Williamstown’s Matt Ballard into the third-place podium spot.

It was Brandon Lanphear versus Stephen Martin at the head of the Maplefields/Irving Late Model table with Martin nabbing the early lead by a fender in their 60-lap Bergamot + Amor trophy dash. Stephen Donahue initially looked good on the outside groove before falling back and leaving Lanphear and Martin to duke it out alone. Donahue’s turn four spin brought out the lap 11 caution to set off the first of two drag-races between Lanphear and Martin. The two top runners kept things interesting while Marcel Gravel and Taylor Hoar made their duo into a group of four out front.

The final caution on lap 46 for Boomer Morris’ turn one spin, Gravel and Lanphear faced off for the final time under the restart green. Gravel took the edge this time around and ran away to take his first win of the season followed by Lanphear and Martin to complete the Bergamot + Amor podium.

The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors went for two 15-lap segments to bring a little Milk Bowl flair to the cool September evening. Cayden Green handily won the first segment, then found himself stuck in the back and having to fight his way to the top in the second round. Taylor Sayers made his way to the front first, leaving Green to fight in the middle of the pack until the lap 11 caution for Mason Frazier’s contact with the ‘Widowmaker’ frontstretch wall and subsequent meeting with the turn one tire wall. The caution re-racked the field but it was all Taylor Sayers for the overall win over Cayden Green on the tiebreaker with Brayden Murphy taking third.
