Derrick Calkins Becomes 1st Repeat Myers Triple Crown Champion on Cody Chevrolet Night

Barre, VT – It was age before beauty, or maybe the other way around, in the rk Miles Street Stocks with ‘Flyin’ Fred Fleury and Howard Stockwell leading the charge to the green flag. Stockwell took advantage on the outside groove with Kyle MacAskill and Jason P. Kirby in hot pursuit just before Jen Getty’s hard hit with the widowmaker frontstretch wall on lap 8. Stockwell mistakenly chose the bottom on the restart, giving MacAskill the chance to stay even lap after lap as Kirby watched on in third.

Another crash-bang affair in turn four slowed the field once again on lap 19, claiming several cars including Donat Premont, TJ Haggett and others. Back under green, MacAskill made short work of the restart this time and quickly extended his lead to the checkered flag.

Justin Prescott quickly took charge in the Cody Chevrolet-Cadillac 60-lap trophy dash for the Maplefields/Irving Late Models as Stephen Donahue and Bobby Therrien followed on the bottom. Meanwhile Brandon Lanphear and Marcel Gravel’s side-by-side for fourth turned into a bottle-neck as Taylor Hoar, Jason Corliss and Brandon Gray piled in by the halfway point. The caution-free feature saw Justin Prescott led every lap to the very end with Therrien rounding Donahue for second and Donahue just barely taking third by a nose at the line over Jason Corliss.

Myers Container Service Triple Crown championship hopefuls Sam Caron and Logan Powers went toe-to-toe at the head of the Cody Chevrolet-Cadillac 100 Thursday night with Caron taking the early lead. A blown tire for Cooper French brought out an early caution allowing Powers to take charge on the restart. By lap 30, ACT Twin-State Series hot-shoes Stephen Donahue and Brendan Moodie entered the top-five picture after starting deep in the pack with Donahue all over Powers’ rear bumper by lap 40 for the lead!

Donahue took charge by lap 56 and quickly began to make space between himself and Powers back in second. At that point the cards had fallen into place aside from the failed right front tire that cost Brendan Moodie the Triple Crown late in the going. Stephen Donahue dominated the second half of the Cody Chevrolet-Cadillac 100 to the win but post-race technical inspection revealed an unapproved pitman arm as part of the steering set-up in the #26 machine. Logan Powers would be awarded the win with Derrick Calkins moving up to second on the podium to maintain his Myers Container Triple Crown Championship. Cameron Ouellette made it to a third-place finish follow tech in a rare visit to his Thunder Road home this season.

The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors wrapped up the evening with their 20-lap dash. Eugene Quintin showed the way as Caleb Cramer and Eddie Thompson dove around the highbanks just off his rear bumper. Quintin lost the lead on lap 16 with Taylor Sayers and Brenden Premont taking charge. Premont took the lead under the white flag and never looked back to take down the Cody Chevrolet-Cadillac win over Sayers and Thompson at the line.
