NASCAR Cup Series Champion Bobby Labonte to Race Thunder Road on July 9
/Barre, VT – Thunder Road Speedbowl officials are excited to announce that 2000 NASCAR Cup Series Champion and NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Labonte will be making the trip to Barre, Vermont to compete on the famed highbanks of the Nation’s Site of Excitement on Thursday, July 9. Bobby Labonte Night will now feature 100-lap events for both the Maplefields/Irving Oil Late Models and the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers!
Hailing from Corpus Christi, Texas, Bobby Labonte has been a fixture in the NASCAR scene since the 1990s, having earned the 1991 O’Reilly Series championship before signing with Joe Gibbs Racing. Labonte piloted the iconic Interstate Batteries #18 to the 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship and even added the IROC Series Championship to his resume in 2001.
Since stepping away as a full-time Cup Series driver after the 2013 season, Labonte earned a spot in the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2020 and has remained part of the NASCAR world as an analyst for Fox Sports and a driver development coach with Joe Gibbs Racing. Bobby remains active behind the wheel as well, piloting Tour-type Modifieds in the SMART Tour and in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
On Thursday, July 9 Bobby Labonte will get his first taste of the famed Thunder Road Speedbowl piloting a car prepared and crewed by Dale and DJ Shaw. A new Twin-100 format will complement the 2nd annual Tiger $2K for the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers while the Maplefields/Irving Late Models will also run 100 laps shoulder-to-shoulder with Labonte!
