Riley Morris and Matt Ballard Beat the Rain on NBT Bank Night at Thunder Road
/Barre, VT – After lightning fast qualifying heat races, the rk Miles Street Stocks kicked off NBT Bank Night with Round #2 in their Alera Group Triple Crown. 1999 Street Stock champion Donat Premont already impressed to a dominant heat race win and launched off with the initial lead as Jen Getty and Logan Farnsworth battled for second. The Morris Brothers, Riley and Hayden made their way around Farnsworth and into the top three picture by the lap 20 caution for Tyler Whittemore’s turn three spin.
The ten lap shootout saw Premont hang tough but it was Brothers, Morris with full heads of steam in the final circuits. Riley Morris took down his first career Thunder Road victory followed his big brother Hayden with Donat Premont rounding out the podium. Post-race technical inspection would take away Premont’s third-place run with a carburetor infraction giving Jamie Davis the third-place trophy.
The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers hit the track after a short rain delay for their 50-lap NBT Bank feature. Outside polesitter Erin Beaudry’s turn three spin brought out the first caution on lap 2 as everyone scattered to avoid. Parker Gagne and Karsen Murphy brought the field back to green with Gagne getting the jump as Matt Ballard drove up the outside groove. Ballard would lead lap 5 as Chris LaForest, Ty Delphia and Logan Powers clawed into the top five.
With Ballard and Gagne away with the lead a six-car gaggle for third grew to include point leader Brendan Moodie, Luke Peters and Derrick Calkins. The close-quarters racing prompted Powers to look three wide to break Delphia and LaForest’s stalemate, eventually working but time ran short. Matt Ballard nailed down the dominant win over Parker Gagne with Ty Delphia besting Powers and Calkins at the line for third.
Rain settled in once again over Thunder Road Speedbowl during victory lane and, although officials waited, the water never slowed. The Maplefields/Irving Late Model and Burnett Scrap Metal Road Warrior Challenge NBT Bank features will begin the show this Sunday, August 9 on Five Star Roofing Night.
